Wilmslow & District Angling Association
Our aim:
Excellent general fisheries for all members, with an emphasis on sustainability, safety and the environment
Wilmslow and District Angling Association formed in 1930, renting the Wilmslow reservoir for thirty years.
Then in 1961, the War Department decided to sell the factory and auction the adjoining reservoir. WDAA purchased the reservoir for £800, with its 75 members contributing by making interest free loans.
So from humble beginnings WDAA now boasts some of the best fishing in the North West. Today the 4 acre reservoir remains as the jewel in the crown, and noted for its specimen Carp and Tench as well as excellent Crucian and prolific silver fish stocks.
The Association owns a further four waters either side of Dean Rd at its junction with Finsbury Way Handforth Cheshire, all mixed species pools. These comprise Walter’s pool with easy access and comfortable pegs. Middle pool, Admiral’s Hat and Oxbow offering fantastic fishing in tranquil surroundings. WDAA also own a half mile stretch of the meandering River Dean with some classic Chub and Grayling fishing on offer.
Over the past two years the Committee have worked tirelessly to improve the welfare and safety of its members including provision of onsite toilet facilities. The acquisition of pumping equipment and aerators aims to preserve/protect the fish stocks during low oxygen level events.
Further the Association has established a fisheries management team whose day to day responsibility is to ensure the long term welfare of the fish stocks allied to a strategic plan. These same members comprise the bailiff team who adhere to a code of conduct aimed at supporting members and guests to enjoy the fishing to maximum benefit.
WDAA are also committed to encouraging more young members to take up the” noble art”. We believe we provide an ideal environment to assist them develop their angling skills and competency.
In addition the Association has an experienced team organising a full match programme throughout the year. Members can fish for trophies donated by founder members. We also provide an opportunity for guests to participate in some of these matches. We publish two newsletters a year and hold two open meetings for members as well as the AGM. All determined to keep members informed on the future direction.
